# Hirro > Hirro keeps a living inventory of every machine and attachment in your fleet, from the yard to the site. Hirro is a Rotion company, based in Belgium. ## What it does Hirro gives rental fleets and contractors a living inventory. Tag your assets once. Every walk, gate pass and road trip keeps the count up to date. ## How it works - Phone walk-by: The Hirro app runs in the background on your team's phones. When someone walks between the rows, every tag they pass is heard and placed in its zone. - Fixed zones: Gateways at the gate, the wash bay and the workshop log every pass. You see what is being washed, repaired or ready, without anyone typing it in. - Live 4G: Live trackers report GPS position over 4G for high-value machines and for anything that leaves the yard. - Carrier and attachment: A gateway on the truck reads the tags it carries. You know which breaker left with which low loader, and which one never came back. ## Hardware - Standard tag: Most machines and attachments. Swappable battery. (BLE · IP67) - Rugged tag: Built-in magnet. Up to 8 years. (IP67 · IK09) - Mini tag: Tools and small equipment. (BLE · small) - Live tracker: GPS over 4G, anywhere. (GNSS · LTE-M) - Gateway: Gate, wash bay, workshop or truck. (BLE to 4G) ## Who it is for - Equipment rental: Know what is ready to rent out. Stages at gate and wash bay, Attachments matched, Missing items flagged. - Contractors: Stop searching sites for your own equipment. Depot counted on every walk, Per-site lists, Idle machines visible. ## Questions and answers ### How Hirro works #### Can I track equipment without gateways? Yes. Staff phones running the Hirro app hear the tags as people walk the yard, so you can start with phones only. Add gateways at the gate, wash bay or workshop when you want stages to log themselves. #### How accurate is it? Hirro places each asset in a zone of your site, such as Row A or the wash bay. On the spot, the radar on the phone guides you to the asset. We report zones, not metres. #### Does it drain staff phones? In our field test on a Belgian rental yard, the app used about 3 to 5% of phone battery per shift. #### What about assets that leave the yard? Live trackers report GPS position over 4G. A gateway on a truck reads the tags on the attachments it carries, so you know what left with which vehicle. #### Can I use the tags I already have? Yes. Hirro reads standard BLE tags (iBeacon and Eddystone). Other protocols need a one-off integration. ### Equipment rental software for yards and attachments #### How do I find attachments on a rental yard? Tag each attachment. Staff phones and gateways hear the tags and place them in a zone of the yard. Search the attachment in Hirro, then follow the radar on your phone to the spot. #### Can Hirro track check-in and check-out? Yes. A phone at the gate hears the tags on a truck as it comes in and checks them against the contract. If nobody stands at the gate, a gateway there can do the same. #### We already use another tracker on our machines. Keep it. Hirro can read its data and adds what it misses: the yard, the stages and the attachments. If you switch, the months left on your old contract come off our licence, up to 12. #### Does it work with our rental ERP? Yes. Hirro works with any ERP, including SAP, Odoo and Microsoft Dynamics. Each tag links to the asset through a connector, the API or an export. ### Equipment inventory software for contractors #### How do I keep an equipment inventory without manual counts? Tag your equipment. Staff phones and gateways hear the tags as people work, so the depot is counted continuously and the register stays current. #### Can I see which equipment is on which site? Yes. Live trackers and gateways on trucks report what left the depot and where it went, so each site has its own list. #### Do I need gateways in the depot? No, not to start. Staff phones do most of the reading. Gateways help in covered halls or where nobody walks every day. ### Asset tags, gateways and kits for your fleet #### Can I buy hardware without the software? No. The tags only make sense with a Hirro plan, so every order comes with one. The configurator shows which plan fits your asset count and the help you want. #### How long does delivery take? Starter kits are in stock in Belgium and ship within 2 weeks. Other kits and custom orders ship in 5 to 6 weeks. We confirm the date when we confirm the order. #### How do I order hardware? Build your kit in the configurator on this page and send the order. There is no payment online: we confirm the price and delivery by email or phone, then ship. #### How long does a tag battery last? The Standard tag runs up to 3 to 4 years and the Rugged tag up to 8 years. Battery life depends on how often the tag broadcasts. The Standard tag battery is a CR2477 that you can swap in seconds. #### Do I need gateways? Not to start. Staff phones do most of the reading. Gateways make gate, wash bay and workshop stages update on their own, and a gateway on a truck tracks what it carries. #### Can I lease the hardware? Yes. Lease per device per month over 36 months, with battery swaps and replacements of failed units included. Leased hardware goes with yearly software billing. ### Pricing #### How is Hirro priced? Per site. Billed yearly, Start is €417 a month for up to 100 assets, Operate €833 for up to 1,000 assets and Scale €3,333 for unlimited assets. Extra sites cost €417 a month on Operate and €833 on Scale. Hardware comes on top, close to cost, bought or leased. #### Why is the hardware so cheap? We price tags and gateways close to cost so they never block a deal. You pay for the software and the yard workflow, not a markup on tags. #### Can we pay monthly? Yes, at 20% more on the software, when you buy the hardware from us. Leased hardware goes with yearly software billing. #### Which ERP systems does Hirro connect to? Any ERP, including SAP, Odoo and Microsoft Dynamics. Start includes an export, Operate one connector, and Scale all connectors plus the API. #### Is there a long lock-in? No. Terms are yearly, prices are public, and your own hardware is welcome. #### What do we need to buy to start? Tags for the assets you want to track and a plan for the site. Staff phones with the Hirro app do the reading, so you need no gates or beacons to start. Add gateways later where a stage should log itself. #### Can we ask ChatGPT or Copilot about our assets? Yes, from Operate up. Through the Hirro MCP server, ChatGPT, Claude or Microsoft Copilot answer questions from your live inventory, such as where an asset is or what has been idle. ### Switch your asset tracking with credit up to 12 months #### How does the switch credit work? If you leave another tracking contract, the months left on it come off your Hirro software licence, up to 12 months. It covers the licence, not hardware. #### Can we keep our current tracker on the machines? Yes. Hirro can read its data and add the yard, the stages and the attachments. You decide later whether to replace it. #### Can we keep our tags? Yes, if they are standard BLE tags (iBeacon or Eddystone). Other protocols need a one-off integration. ### Event and stage rental inventory tracking #### How do I track which kit went to which event? Tag each case and item. A phone at the loading dock hears the tags on the truck, and Hirro matches them to the event. #### Do I need readers in the warehouse? No, not to start. Staff phones read the tags as people work. Gateways help in areas where nobody walks every day. ### Stock and demo machine tracking for machinery dealers #### Can Hirro keep our stock list up to date? Yes. Staff phones hear the tags as people walk the yard, so each machine has a zone and a time it was last heard, without a manual count. ### Equipment tracking for utilities and public works #### Do crews need to scan anything? No. The app runs in the background on crew phones and hears tags nearby. Staff open it only to search or to link a new tag. #### What do the phones share? You choose: only the tags a phone hears, or the phone location too. #### Where is the data stored? On AWS in the EU. A standard DPA is available. ### Integrations #### Can Hirro work with our current telematics? Yes. Keep your trackers on the machines. Hirro reads their data and adds the yard, the stages and the attachments. #### What is the MCP server for? MCP is the standard way AI assistants connect to other software. The Hirro MCP server lets ChatGPT, Claude or Microsoft Copilot read your live inventory, so staff can ask where an asset is without opening Hirro. #### Which plan includes which integration? Start includes an export. Operate adds one ERP connector and the MCP server for AI assistants. Scale adds all connectors and the API. ### Security and privacy #### Is it legal to track equipment with employees’ phones under GDPR? It can be, with a clear purpose and the right setup. In tag-only mode the app reports which tags it hears, not where the person is. Agree the mode with your works council, and record it in our data processing agreement. #### Is Hirro ISO 27001 certified? Not yet. We are working toward ISO 27001 certification. #### Do you sign a data processing agreement? Yes. Every customer signs our standard DPA. ### Hirro vs Trackunit Kin #### Is Hirro an alternative to Trackunit Kin? Yes, for yards and depots. Hirro uses your staff phones as readers and places each asset in a zone of your site. Trackunit Kin is built around Trackunit machine units and gateways. #### Can Hirro run alongside Trackunit? Yes. Keep Trackunit on your machines. Hirro reads its data and adds the yard, the stages and the attachments. #### How does pricing compare? Hirro publishes its prices: from €5,000 per site per year, billed yearly. Trackunit prices Kin by quote, with monthly billing and contracts of generally 36 or 42 months. ### Hirro vs Hilti ON!Track #### Is Hirro an alternative to Hilti ON!Track? For machines and attachments in a yard or depot, yes. For a large fleet of hand tools checked out to workers, ON!Track is built for that job. #### Do staff need to scan assets in Hirro? Only once, to link a tag to an asset. After that, staff phones hear the tags in the background as people work. #### Can Hirro use our existing tags? Hirro works with standard BLE tags (iBeacon and Eddystone). Other tags need a one-off integration. ### Hirro vs Sensolus #### Is Hirro an alternative to Sensolus? For rental yards and contractor depots, yes. Hirro uses staff phones as readers and tracks stages and attachments. Sensolus is strong for returnables read by fixed gateways. #### Do I need gateways with Hirro? Not to start. Staff phones do most of the reading. Add gateways at the gate, wash bay or workshop when you want stages to log themselves. #### Which is cheaper? It depends on the number of assets per site. Sensolus charges €1 per asset per month for location tags. Hirro charges per site, from €5,000 per year, with tags close to cost. ### Yard cost calculator: what searching and lost equipment cost #### How much time do rental yards spend searching for equipment? It differs per yard, so the calculator starts from your own numbers. Count the searches in one normal week, time a few of them, and include the people who wait, such as a driver with a truck at the gate. #### Where do the starting cost numbers come from? They are our estimates for a typical gateway and gate setup, not quotes. Gateway and gate prices vary by supplier and site. We confirm Hirro prices with your order. #### Do you store what I type in? No. The calculator runs in your browser. We only see your numbers when you send them to us with the form. ### EU Data Act checklist for rental companies #### Does the EU Data Act apply to equipment rental companies? Yes, when you own or rent out connected machines. You are a user towards the manufacturer, and your customers are users of the machines they rent. Before a rental contract, you tell the renter what data the machine generates. #### Who owns the data from a rented machine? The Data Act doesn't hand out ownership. It gives users the right to access the data and share it with a service they choose. Both the owner and the renter can be users, so agree in the rental contract who may use the data. #### What changed on 12 September 2026? Connected products placed on the EU market from that date must be designed so that users can reach their data easily, and where relevant directly. Machines bought earlier are still covered by the access rights that apply since September 2025. #### Is this checklist legal advice? No. It is a practical summary for rental companies. Check your contracts with your lawyer or your trade association, such as the European Rental Association, which publishes its own guide. #### Where does Hirro keep tracking data? On AWS in the EU. A standard DPA is available, and you can export your asset data through the API or an export. ## Pages - [Home](https://hirro.eu/): Hirro keeps a living inventory of every machine and attachment. Draw your zones, link a tag to each asset with two scans, and let staff phones do the reading. - [Choosing a tracking mix per site](https://docs.hirro.eu/tracking/choosing-a-mix/): How to combine staff phones, site gateways, vehicle gateways and live trackers on a site, starting with phones and adding hardware where it pays off. - [Live trackers for assets that leave the yard](https://docs.hirro.eu/tracking/live-trackers/): A live tracker reports GPS position over 4G for high-value machines and units that travel alone, such as light towers and generators. - [Parent and child: which attachment left with which machine](https://docs.hirro.eu/tracking/parent-and-child/): A vehicle gateway or live tracker hears the tags that ride along, so Hirro knows which bucket or breaker left with which machine or truck. - [Site gateways and zones that update themselves](https://docs.hirro.eu/tracking/site-gateways/): A site gateway listens at one fixed spot, such as the gate, wash bay or workshop, so every pass is logged and stages update without typing. - [Walk-by scanning with staff phones](https://docs.hirro.eu/tracking/walk-by/): The Hirro app hears tags in the background as staff walk the yard, so you can track equipment without installing gateways. - [Zones and accuracy](https://docs.hirro.eu/tracking/zones-and-accuracy/): Hirro places each asset in a named zone of your site, not at a coordinate, and the radar on the phone guides you the last metres. - [Tracking attachments and small tools](https://docs.hirro.eu/use-cases/attachments-and-small-tools/): How to tag buckets, breakers, quick hitches and tools with Hirro, link them to the machines they travel with, and find them on the yard. - [Equipment inventory for contractors](https://docs.hirro.eu/use-cases/contractors/): How contractors use Hirro to keep a per-site list of machines, containers and tools, find idle equipment and stop renting what they already own. - [Asset tracking for equipment rental companies](https://docs.hirro.eu/use-cases/equipment-rental/): How rental companies use Hirro to find machines and attachments before dispatch, check in returns, and see what is ready to rent. ## Insights Full text of every post: https://hirro.eu/llms-full.txt - [The EU Data Act for rental companies: who gets the machine data?](https://hirro.eu/blog/eu-data-act-equipment-rental/): Both of you. Under the EU Data Act, the rental company that owns a connected machine and the customer who rents it are both users, so both can ask for the data the machine generates. Since 12 September 2026, new connected machines must be designed to make that data easy to reach. This is general guidance, not legal advice. - [Why AirTags fall short for construction equipment.](https://hirro.eu/blog/airtags-construction-equipment/): AirTags work well for finding one lost item, and that is what Apple designed them for. For a fleet they fall short: they are tied to personal Apple accounts, they alert nearby iPhone users they are travelling with, and they do not feed a shared inventory or your ERP. A fleet needs tags that report to one company system. - [Bluetooth tags or GPS trackers for construction equipment.](https://hirro.eu/blog/bluetooth-tags-vs-gps-trackers/): Use GPS trackers on powered, high-value machines that leave the yard on their own. Use Bluetooth tags on attachments, tools and anything without power. GPS tells you where a machine is on the map; Bluetooth tells you where an asset is on your yard. Most fleets end up with a mix of both. - [Construction equipment theft: what tracking can and cannot do.](https://hirro.eu/blog/construction-equipment-theft/): Tracking does not stop a thief, but it changes two things. A hidden 4G tracker on a high-value machine shows where it went after it left. Tags on attachments and tools show sooner that something is missing. Fences, locks, marking and good habits on site still do most of the preventing. - [How to count equipment without a stock count.](https://hirro.eu/blog/count-equipment-inventory/): Tag each asset and let the phones of people already walking your yards and stores hear the tags. Every pass confirms which assets are where. The count happens in the background, every day, so your register stays true between audits without anyone walking the rows with a clipboard. - [How to find attachments on a rental yard.](https://hirro.eu/blog/find-attachments-rental-yard/): Tag every attachment, let the phones your staff already carry hear those tags as they walk the yard, and place each one in a named zone such as Row B or the wash bay. A search then answers with a place, and the radar on the phone covers the last metres. - [Can you track equipment with employees' phones under GDPR?](https://hirro.eu/blog/gdpr-equipment-tracking-employee-phones/): Yes, if you set it up with care. The aim is to track equipment, not people, so collect only what you need, tell staff what the app does, and agree the rules before rollout. With Hirro you choose whether phones report tag sightings only or their own location too. This post is general guidance, not legal advice. - [Rental turnaround: from returned to ready.](https://hirro.eu/blog/rental-turnaround-returned-to-ready/): Turnaround is the time from the moment a machine comes back through the gate to the moment it is ready to rent again. To shorten it, first see where it goes. Log each stage automatically with gateways at the gate, the wash bay and the workshop, then look at the dwell time per stage. - [Can you track equipment without gateways?](https://hirro.eu/blog/track-equipment-without-gateways/): Yes. A phone running a tracking app can do the job of a gateway, hearing Bluetooth tags as staff walk the yard. You start with no wiring, no power points and no installation day. Gateways are still worth adding at spots where you want every pass logged, such as the gate or the wash bay.
